Overview

What is this site about?

We are two retired Canadians who had been travelling quite a bit until COVID-19. Now we’re seeing a lot of pent-up demand from people like us who want to resume travelling when they can. People who have PLENTY of time to do detailed trip planning and make the most of these later years, which won’t last forever.

We want to share some of the planning techniques that have worked for us. Even if this is more planning than you want to do, have a skim. You might find some standalone ideas or techniques you will find useful.

Getting there is half the fun. Being there is half the fun. |
And detailed planning adds another half.

Who is this site for?

Yes:

  • You like to smile that little smile at the end of a day that worked out perfectly
  • You hate unpleasant surprises like “Whaddya mean you have to pre-book?”
  • You like to say, “Yes, I know how to get there and how long it will take.”
  • You’re comfortable using computer tools to plan your trip
  • You have time to plan your trip and you enjoy doing it
  • You like coffee, pastries and beer
  • You want to mix the unusual with the Standard Must-see places
  • You might be a bit older; you are reasonably mobile but you know what “stupid with fatigue” means
  • Your hotel will be clean and comfortable and well-run, but not more than you need
  • “Mid-level budget” sounds like you

No:

  • Foodies and wine-tour aficionados
  • Five-star hotel, please, on Priceline
  • Party animals
  • Adrenaline junkies, hikers and joggers (there are plenty of other sites for you)
  • People who just book the ship’s tour on a cruise
  • People who just take a taxi everywhere

Only one of our recent trips has been by car. We have been to many places where a car would just have been a total hassle. But as a result, we’ve done mostly cities except on our cruises. Sorry, nothing south of the equator — yet.

I’ve used the same planning methods for all of them. The only difference is that I don’t always need all the tools in the box.

Recommendations: I name several websites here. I have no affiliation with any of them except as a satisfied customer – with one exception, which I identify clearly.
